“The Seas of Distant Stars is a coming of age story in an era of human history in which we’ve lost such rituals. This book perhaps even suggests that humanity as a whole requires a collective coming of age, an endeavor that requires us, like the protagonist in The Seas of Distant Stars, to remember our past.”/5(4).

The Seas of Distant Stars was the book choice for my book club and when I read the back of the book I was immediately intrigued. The world that the author built made me so curious and the descriptions pulled me into the story/5. “The Seas of Distant Stars is a coming of age story in an era of human history in which we’ve lost such rituals.

For me it was not an easy read, but challenging. It was a good story to push me out of my comfort zone. Loved it – 4 stars. Escape Rating B: While The Seas of Distant Stars is unquestionably science fiction, with its point of view character so very young for much of the narrative, it also feels like more of a young adult book than an adult book.

The story revolves around Agapanthus’ and later Aria’s search for identity.4/5. The Seas of Distant Stars Posted by Book Review Virginia Lee Blog December 7, Novem Posted in Blog Tour Tags: #Bookreviewvirginialeeblog Literary Science-Fiction.

They walked home; through the buzzing silence, through the steady, sweet-warm glow of the inescapable sky, lit aloft by the home sun and the quiet meanderings of the God stars, which now Agapanthus hated—hated, hated, hated, with all her gut and her clenched jaw and all the strength she could pour into the limbs of her weak, young body.

My science-fiction novel, The Seas of Distant Stars, tells the story of a human girl—Agapanthus—who’s abducted by aliens and grows up on Deeyae, a red-rocked, watery planet in another solar system.

It may not have the same name in real life, but Deeyae is a real planet. It bears the stoic title of GlieseCc, and it’s known to scientists as an Earth-like : Shelley Workinger.

The Seas of Distant Stars is a variation on the alien abduction trope. The protagonist, Aria, is a “preverbal” little girl who is mobile, goes down the steps into the front yard as her parents are resting inside, and is abducted, we don’t see exactly how, and the next we know she is on another planet.
